Brief Note
Prior to World War 2 Jules Roeckaert, from Oedekoevenstraat, Borgerhout, an outer district of Antwerp, had built up a team of extreme long distance pigeons. For many years he raced under the name Ost-Roe and was competitive with the best. He favoured in breeding and built around him a family of pigeons. Many other fanciers of the period, 1920-1930, from both the Netherlands and Belgium obtained pigeons from him mainly from his principal stud cock "Goede Lichte" Belg19-42410. In his early days he bought pigeons from Eduard De Herdt, a renowned fancier of the day, from the small town of Kontich about 10kms from Borgerhout. From two of those pigeons he bred "Muschke" who turned out to be an excellent racing hen but an even better breeding hen. In turn "Muschke" bred the "Oude Lichte" and when he was paired to a hen from Emile van der Avoort, who also lived in Borgerhout and whose pigeons mostly derived from Roeckaert, they produced the "Goede Lichte" Belg19-42410 who proved to be the principal stud cock of the Jules Roeckaert lofts.
